Global Village teen honored at luncheon for Children's Mental Health Awareness Week

Jarred, 19, of Akron was honored Friday, May 9 during a luncheon marking Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week sponsored by Family Voices Network of Erie County.
Jarred is a foster child in the home of Toni Whiting and Dan Popielski, through Global Village Therapeutic Foster Care, a program of New Directions Youth and Family Services.
“Jarred is an upstanding youth that has made significant improvements in his life since being in foster care,” said Lance Becvar, youth counselor with Global Village.
“Jarred is very responsible and is driven to succeed. He will be graduating this year and will attend Genesee Community College in the fall.
“He is also an asset to his foster mom. He often baby-sits and provides mentoring to the other children in his home.”
The theme of the event was “Celebrating the Success of our Families.” The goal was to raise awareness and promote mental wellness.
