Post-Adoption Program

Our Post-Adoption Services can help support and strengthen the unity of your family by assisting you in meeting the goals of your family with respect, safety and responsibility.

 

 

Eligibility

You can be part of the Post-Adoption Program if:

  • You have an adopted child from any agency.
  • You live in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua or Erie County.
  • You meet TANF requirements.

 

 

Post-Adoption Services

Case Management – A Post-Adoption case manager visits your home twice a month and can help in many ways:

  • Assisting the family in service selections for linkages to other service providers needed.
  • Referrals for counseling such as family counseling, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Family Skill Building: Specific parent trainings such as parenting a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder, and other mental health topics are provided through our Global Village Therapeutic professionals.
  • Community referrals for mentoring services, tutoring, writing and academic classes.
  • Recreation referrals for various sports activities, art and dance classes (some financial assistance may be provided for families interested in summer camps and YMCA programs).

Advocacy – The case manager provides support and guidance with special education needs such as:

  • Accompanying families to meetings with committees on special education.
  • Families can receive information on their child’s rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Accompanying families to court hearings and medical appointments.

Crisis Response – The case manager:

  • Will be on call 24 hours a day.
  • Can provide access to Mobile Crisis Response Team.

Respite – A trained, certified therapeutic foster family can care for your child in case of extreme emergency situations.

Mental Health Services – The case manager can:

  • Provide access to licensed psychiatric support for temporary use.
  • Provide assistance in finding permanent mental health care provider.

Support Groups – Connect you with others who really understand what you’re going through.

  • For adoptive parents.
  • For adopted teens.

  • Your family’s needs.
  • Your family’s size.
  • Your family’s annual income.

All information you provide will be held in strictest confidence.

Support Groups taking summer break; will meet again in September

Our support groups give adoptive families an excellent opportunity to share their experiences with other families that are just like them. 

Meetings will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of every month at Global Village Therapeutic Foster Care, 1455 Kensington Ave., Buffalo.  There will be separate meetings for teenagers and for parents, and any adoptive families are welcome to attend.
